A meeting of the elders council of
Attendance: Elders Jim Brown, Pat Fecich (ex officio), Chris Marshall, David Norris, Frank Relihan. Incoming elder Chuck Matus attended as a guest. He will be ordained on June 22, 2008.
The meeting was opened with prayer and discussion with the Nehemiah Team on New Life’s vision and what it means to be evangelically bold.
Personnel: Compensation increases for the ministry staff will be considered at the end of the second quarter. Jim, Frank and Dave will review the budget and bring recommendations to the July elders council meeting.
Pastor Chris requested that a statement be prepared concerning the use of church-owned equipment by ministry staff members and the creation of intellectual property. The following statement was considered by the elders:
The elders council defines “intellectual property” as creations of the mind, such as musical, literary and artistic works as well as inventions, symbols, names, images and designs. Intellectual property also includes copyrights, trademarks, patents and related rights. The creator of any of these abstract properties has exclusive rights to the property.
The elders council permits the use of New Life Christian Ministries, Inc. owned assets (computers, scanners, printers, fax machines, copiers, cell phones, landline phones and other assets as may be purchased) to be used by ministry staff members in good standing to produce intellectual property on their own time or as part of study leave time granted by the Personnel Policies in effect at the time of production. The cost of consumables (paper, toner, ink) must be reimbursed to the church. The intellectual property produced belongs exclusively to the ministry staff member and New Life Christian Ministries, Inc. will hold no claims to the intellectual property and will derive no financial benefits from the intellectual property.
New Life Christian Ministries, Inc. is not responsible for the content of any intellectual property prepared by individual ministry staff members for their own personal use.
New Life Christian Ministries, Inc. corporate images (logos) can not be used in promotion of intellectual properties by individual ministry staff members.
The intellectual property statement was approved and will be placed as a policy statement in the Personnel Policies of the church. The other ministry staff members will be informed of this decision.
