When the Holy Spirit came to the 120 believers who had been waiting and praying for His arrival for ten days, the first thing He did was give the believers the ability to spread the Good News of Jesus:  ⁵At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem.  ⁶When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.  ⁷They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee, ⁸and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages!  

People from all over the world heard the Good News of Jesus in their own language!  Wow!  That must have been an incredible moment, and yet it's not surprising.  The Holy Spirit's purpose in every age in church history has been to make Jesus known.  The Holy Spirit did not come to "steal the show" from Jesus.  He came to empower us as followers of Jesus to make Jesus known to others.  Think of all the gifts of the Holy Spirit--prophecy, tongues, mercy, healing, faith, administration, and others.  They weren't given so we would say, "Isn't the Holy Spirit amazing!"  They were given so we could show Jesus' amazing salvation to others.  I have friends who have ministered in third world countries.  They have travelled to rural villages and spoken the truth of Jesus to the people there. Then the Holy Spirit used them to bring healings to sick folks in the villages and the villagers have trusted Jesus.  The Spirit points to Jesus.  It's important for us to remember that.  We are never to draw attention to ourselves, but to give Jesus the glory and praise for His salvation, and thank Him for sending the Spirit to work through us!

Heavenly Father, Thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to empower us to share the Good News of Jesus with others.  Fill us right now with Your Spirit that we may be bold to tell others about Jesus.  This we pray in Jesus' name.  Amen.
