As we close out our focus on Psalm 33:12-19, look at this amazing promise: 18But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:18-19. God eyes are on those who fear Him and whose hope is in His unfailing love! Picture that! The "eyes" of the God of the universe are on you and me, on any person and any nation that "fears" Him and puts our hope in His unfailing love. What an amazing comfort that is when life isn't going our way--or even when it is. If you were God--THE God--of the universe would you invest your time in watching over every person and nation that feared and put their hope in you? Fear as it's used in the Psalm means to hold a reverential awe or respect. Even so, that's a lot of focus on OTHERS, if you're the God of the universe. Isn't that the point? Our God isn't what humans would expect or be if we were God. He focuses outward rather than on ourselves. He extends His grace to us, so we may extend His glory in the world, but His grace is free and He never coerces us to receive it. Some folks don't believe in God. Others believe that God is whatever You want Him to be. The God of the Bible is a being no human would make up. He is so totally other than what we are. His focus is on those who fear Him and put our hope in His unfailing love--not on those who fear Him and bring Him ransom, or offer sacrifices to Him--although in the Psalmist's day, folks were still offering sacrifices to Him. God is holy and loving, which is so unlike the idols and other gods derived in the mind of human beings. Today, I give thanks for belonging to the one, true and living God, and for knowing that He watches over me and protects me from death, famine and any harm. What an amazing God! Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You for watching over us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may live boldly and confidently for You. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
