Friday is my Sabbath. Usually, I write a post on Friday anyway. Today, I have enjoyed a day of rest and renewal. It started with my mile of swimming and praying, which has truly become one of the high points of my day. Since I'm getting in better swimming shape, the swimming is automatic and since my head is in the water, it gives me a time of uninterrupted prayer. (There's also something psychologically satisfying to me about exercise while in a horizontal position!) After the swim I listened to the Bible on my Droid for forty-five minutes (while I ran a few errands) and then had breakfast. After breakfast, I changed the oil and filter, and air filter in the "pre-owned" 2001 Chevy Malibu we bought yesterday, after realizing we needed to get rid of the 2001 Subaru Forrester, because Emmy doesn't drive a standard (the Subaru's a 5-speed), and Nancy doesn't like driving a standard as much as she used to, so if anyone out there is in need of a great "pre-owned" car, with a 5 speed and all wheel drive, I have one on the market. As Emmy was helping me change the oil in the car she said, "I feel like going to the movie." So we did. (I realize Emmy's going to be off at college in a little more than a year and spontaneous movie going won't be happening. ) We had a fun time, and then came home and made a late lunch together. After that, she went to work and I went out to the garage to "putter around," and listened to the Bible some more. Without your realizing it, today's post is actually about this week's theme--- Rock N Roll. Actually it's about doing things that are good for us. As Pastor Brad reminded us and as we've been considering all week, constant garbage in produces garbage out---but for the past year or so, I've been constantly putting in "the good stuff," when I drive around. I've listened nearly the whole way through the Bible just in my time in the car in the past 210 days. (I know that because the Bible program I listen to on my Droid is 250 days long and in 40 more days, I'll have completed it and the whole Bible.) If you're thinking I spend a lot of time in the car, it's averages out to about 45 minutes a day in a typical week. I could do a lot of things with those 45 minutes, but for the last 210 of them, I've listened to the Bible. And guess what, constant good stuff in --- ‑______________! You got it! More good stuff out! Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thanks for giving us Your word, and for giving people the wisdom to create technology that makes it easier to put it into our hearts and minds! Fill us with the Holy Spirit so we'll make good decisions with our time, and as a result see more of You coming out in our lives! This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
