The result of the "new deal" God gave us through Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross is humble boldness. What do I mean by that? I mean we have boldness to walk right into heaven and stand in the presence of God! Hebrews 10:19-22 tells us as much: 19And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. We must always remember that the boldness to walk into God's presence is an inherited or imputed boldness. We receive it as a gift from Jesus. Nothing in us is good, or worthy of standing in God's presence. Only the blood of Jesus cleanses us and makes us worthy. That's why our boldness is humble. Humility is not weakness. Humility in this case is a recognition that our salvation is wholly dependent on Jesus' completed work on the cross and therefore, we have no basis for boasting or confidence in ourselves. When we live in humble boldness, those around us recognize the attitude AND recognize that it comes from beyond us. They may not be able to put words to it, but humble boldness is what it takes to live as "salt and light" in the world as Jesus commanded us to do, and when people see and experience it in us they give the credit or glory to God, because the attitude is distinctly divine. The only way to live in humble boldness is to claim the victory that God gives us through Jesus and live in the power of the Holy Spirit. As we do that, everything changes and we can literally walk into the throne room of heaven--knowing that Jesus has given us the right to be there! Let's live in humble boldness today! Heavenly Father, Thank You for the opportunity to know You through Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for the gift of humble boldness through Him. Fill us with the Holy Spirit that we may live in humble boldness today and thus draw folks to You. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
