So, as we've seen this week, God wants to speak NEW words, send NEW direction, and supply NEW strength to our lives through worship! Does that mean we have to wait for Sunday in order to hear God's voice, be sent in new direction and to receive new strength for living out His will in our lives? Of course not! Worship is a seven day a week opportunity not just a once a week activity. Daily worship may take many forms. We may worship by ourselves at a set time and place we set aside just for worship. We may worship with our spouse, if we're married, with an accountability group, in a small group, or in corporate worship services held on days other than Sunday. The limits of where, when and how to worship are not actually limited! At times through the week I'll worship as I'm driving somewhere in the car, or as I'm swimming at the YMCA, or as I'm walking in my yard, in addition to set times when I sit down to read God's word, pray, and offer Him praise and thanks. I enjoy opportunities to worship with small groups or one on one with others as well. Don't let the word "worship" automatically lead to the context of Sunday morning, corporate worship. God has fresh words for us EVERY day. God has ongoing direction and "course correction" in our lives. God's Holy Spirit lives in us and is ready to empower us at any moment. One of the problems with compartmentalizing worship to a Sunday morning activity is we miss out on a lived out faith. I'd guess that Saul and Barnabas and the others were worshiping and fasting at a time other than Sunday morning in the passage we've been looking at from Acts 13 this week. I'd also guess that worship and fasting was a regular activity--worship being a daily activity. After all, Saul (later called Paul) is the one who wrote the words, "...pray without ceasing..." and "... give thanks in all circumstances..." both aspects of worship. As you go about today, be intentional about worshiping the Lord and listening for His instructions, His direction, and be open to receiving His power. Then ACT on what you hear, learn and receive. After all, the best way to receive God's blessings in our lives is to do the things He commands and calls us to do! Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for speaking new words, sending new direction, and supplying new strength in our lives daily as we worship You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may listen, discern and respond to You today. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
