Some of us are in our spring housecleaning routine. I’ve been working on a room a day chasing dust bunnies from their hiding places and giving the furniture, blinds and flooring extra TLC! Since downsizing from a home to a condo, it has been my goal not to accumulate “stuff!” I’ve been checking the closets and donating any items that I have not used the last year. So far, so good on the stuff front! The apostle Paul believed we need to do some spiritual housecleaning also. In 2 Corinthians 7:1 we read “Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete purity because we fear God.” How can we cleanse ourselves? Let’s start with the attic – our minds. What are we putting into our minds? Make certain that all we see, read, hear are pleasing to God. If not, clean the garbage out! Next, let’s look at the closets – what are we hiding from others? Resolve to clean out bad habits! Finally, the whole house – God’s temple – needs to be swept clean! We are not our own, we have been bought at a price. Each day, give TLC to our homes – physical and spiritual – and live lives that honor Jesus! |
