Let's do a little word association. I say, "Jesus." You say, "___________." What fills the blank? Savior? Servant? Lamb? How about "Judge of the Universe"? King of Kings and Lord of Lords? As we continue reading about Jesus from Revelation 5, we read: He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth. Seven horns....Seven is the number of completion or perfection in the Bible, particularly in the Book of Revelation. Horns symbolize power. Seven horns equal complete or perfect power. The seven eyes we're told represent the Holy Spirit, the complete or perfect (sevenfold) Spirit of God. Not exactly the picture we get of Jesus by reading the Gospels is it? We see glimpses of the powerful, judging Jesus in His parables, when He turned over the tables of the money changers in the temple, but for the most part the Jesus of the Gospels--the Jesus who came to earth as a baby in a manger was humble, meek, submissive--to God. He died on the cross rather than show the taunting onlookers that He could come off the cross if He wanted to (He could have, but He didn't want to, because He knew the only way to overcome our sin was for Him to die in our place! Not this time. Not when He comes to judge the living and the dead! Not when He stands in heaven as the only way worthy and powerful enough to take the scroll from the hand of God the Father. We need to start getting used to THIS Jesus, the Jesus who IS the conquering King, who will establish His eternal reign and before whom EVERYONE will bow in worship--some willingly, some unwillingly, but ALL will bow. Take a moment right now to start thinking about Jesus as you may never have thought of Him before: as the all powerful King and Lord over all creation! Pause to give Him praise and worship. Live today knowing that Jesus is on your side, if you belong to Him, and in knowing that truth, live into the victory He died to gain for you! Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for sending Jesus once to save us, and for sending Him again to judge us. Prepare us for that moment. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and let us live boldly and humbly in Jesus' name wherever you send us today. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
