Accommodation means to "make room" . When we accommodate people we make room or space for them to be part of our team. As I said on Sunday, we must learn to accommodate each others' needs, ideas, personalities and faults. One of the best Scriptures for to define what accommodation means is "Be faithful, loving and easy to get along with." 2 Timothy 2:22b (CEV) Being easy to get along with takes a lot of accommodation on our part, because people do have a lot of needs, different ideas, varying personalities and faults. I have recognized a lot of my faults this week, because I have been operating a lot on not enough sleep. When I'm tired my faults tend to come out more. I don't know if that ever happens to you, and I realize the easiest solution is to get more sleep, but we all have those weeks when there aren't enough hours in the day, and I'm having one of those weeks. One of my faults is over committing. You're experiencing it right now. Because of all that's been on my plate this week, you're getting this post about fourteen hours later than I intended for you to get it. This blog is a priority for me, because I believe that our study of, reflection on, and living out of Scripture is the surest way for us to grow up to be like Jesus, and yet it's evening and you're just getting the post. Some of you were probably counting on it this morning. Others may have looked for it at lunch time. Hopefully, you'll accommodate my fault and still read it! Changing the subject to something that I just have to tell you about in this area of accommodation is what a group of folks from New Life did this afternoon. They prepared and served a Thanksgiving meal for our friends at DA. (Sorry, but I can't really do more than give you the initials. If you don't know what they mean e-mail more or ask me on Sunday and I'll let you know.) Thanks to their accommodating our friends situation, 30 guys got to eat the best meal many of them have had in a long time. The love of Jesus was practical and tangible and a team approach worked wonders. Thanks to those who served on the team, both for the idea to use your gifts and skills to brighten the lives of the guys, and to fulfill Jesus' plan for us to serve others in His name, and for carrying out the idea with such unity, love and joy! When we work together amazing things happen in Jesus' name. Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for accommodating us--for meeting us where we are and taking us to Yourself out of Your great love for us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may live with the same love toward others. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
