"Let the whole world bless our God and sing aloud His praises." Psalm 66:8 (NLT) Just about everyone realizes that singing to God is a way we worship Him, and as Pastor Brad emphasized yesterday expressing our love to God is called "worship." So, singing to God is a way we love Him. I appreciated how Pastor Brad pointed out that songs touch the heart, which is why most songs down through the ages have focused on love, whether our love for another human being, or our love for God. He pointed out that throughout history far more love songs have been written to God than to other people. He also pointed out that the Bible commands ALL of us to sing aloud His praises. After all "the whole world" does include you and me! For each of the points of emphasis this week, I'm going to ask us what Pastor Brad asked all of us yesterday--to evaluate ourselves. Do you sing to God regularly, occasionally, or rarely? I'll admit this is an area where I would have to respond "occasionally." While I love to be around people and I truly enjoy singing when we worship together, when I'm by myself, I prefer to think rather than sing. I occupy most of my alone time with thinking and praying. I'll listen to the audio YouVersion Bible as I drive and think about the passages. Sometimes I drift off into thoughts about people or tasks needing to be completed. I'll pray for someone or a situation that comes to mind. I rarely drift off into singing. Emmy, our younger daughter, on the other hand, ALWAYS seems to have a song in her heart. It may be a song she's learning for the Chamber Singers at school, or a worship song, but she's always either singing or humming a song. What about you? Do you show God you love Him by singing to Him regularly, occasionally, or rarely? What do you need to do to show God you love Him more in this manner? Do you need to buy some worship CD's or download some to your iPod? I've decided I'm going to take some time each day this week, and sing at least a couple of worship songs to the Lord. What will you do? Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You so much for all that you are and do to be worthy of our worship and praise! Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may love You with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh |
