The Apostle Paul and Silas had a plan: TELL PEOPLE THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT JESUS--EVERYWHERE! It was a great plan. As we saw yesterday, they were prevented from going to Asia to tell the people there about Jesus, and it was the Holy Spirit who prevented them. Today, they move to "Plan B" but it turns out they are wrong again: 7Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. Notice, it is "the Spirit of Jesus" who didn't allow this plan to move forward. The Spirit of Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one in the same. This is important since some deny the reality of the Trinity and obviously the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of Jesus are one in the same, and the names are evidence that the one, true God is seen in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. The key is once again Paul and Silas were seeking to do God's will, but they weren't able to carry out their plan to do it. This helps us see that sometimes when we have a plan to do God's will and we aren't able to carry it out, that doesn't mean we are outside of God's will. It may just mean God has a different plan for us at the moment. That's why King Solomon reminded us that we make our plans, but God directs our steps. What are you planning today? Do you have a plan to carry God's will forward in your life today? If so, great! But remember, even when we have plans we must hold them lightly, because God may have another plan for us--and it will always be the best one! Let's pray: Heavenly Father, Thank You for having the best plan for our lives, and for showing us that even our good plans may be wrong when compared with what You have for us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may hear Your voice and do Your will. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
